The release of test realm brought a lot of attention to the new world, Polaris, and the third arc.  This does not mean that the new fishing updates shouldn’t be given any attention!  

The update to Wizard101 is bringing a whole new aspect to fishing, new goals, and really easy ways to earn lots of gold!  As a Wizard101 Software Engineer, Gary Scott Smith, put it, “an alternative to the Bank of Halfang.”

Castle Fish

Yes, that’s right!  We now can find fish in our castles with ten different castles that you can fish in, all being bundle castles.  These castles include: The Acropolis, Amber Estate, all Arcane Houses, Botanical Gardens, Massive Fantasy Palace, Pyramid of the Last Horizon, Serpentine Escape, Sun Palace, and the Winter Wind Tower.

Each of the castles listed have fish from all around the Spiral as well as new fish that are special to their location!  Another special fish that you can find in these castles are the current fish of the season.  Currently, the Black Catfish and the Fall Foliage fish can be caught in every single one of these castles!

New Fishing Chest Drops!

Throughout the different castles, there are interesting items you can receive from fishing chests!  The items include mounts, music scrolls (including Pirate101 music), tapestries, a new reagent (Draconium), planters, and housing games!

Fishing Gear

New Fishing gear can be bought with arena tickets from the arena vendor!  This gear is better than any fishing gear that has been available before, which includes fishing luck and energy.  All pieces of gear (hat, robe, and boots) equal to 700 total arena tickets.

Fishing Tournaments

Determined fishers in the Spiral now have a weekly competition they can join!  The Fishing Tournaments are weekly tournaments involving a specific type of fish.  You can see what the Fishing Tournament fish for that week is by checking in with Lucky Hookline.  It will request for you to catch one specific fish at either Small Fry or Whopper.  Once you catch the fish, it’ll give you a pop up requesting if you want to enter it into the tournament.  If you enter it, it’ll give you another pop up telling you what place you landed at.  If the tournament is requesting a Small Fry, the wizard that catches the smallest fish wins.  If it is requesting a Whopper, the wizard that catches the largest fish wins.  Every entry awards you with something but the top six entries will receive bigger awards.  There are one gold, two silver, and four bronze places.  You can check the Fishing Tournaments leaderboard at any time with Lucky Hookline in The Commons.

Fishing Tournament Rewards

Gold (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place): 250 arena tickets and ‘Medal Catcher’ badge

Silver (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th place): 120 arena tickets and ‘Medal Catcher’ badge

Bronze (10th through 18th place): 50 arena tickets and ‘Medal Catcher’ badge

19th place or below: 2,000 Gold and ‘Medal Catcher’ badge

***The amount of places for either gold, silver, or bronze vary depending on the amount of people who try doing the Tournament and get a fish on the leaderboard.

Catch of the Day

This is the feature that can replace your continuous Halfang farming!  Catch of the Day is a daily occurrence that requests for you to catch one fish.  You can check what the Catch of the Day of that day is by going to several Fishing NPCs around the Spiral including Lucky Hookline.  

Everyday the Catch of the Day fish can be sold for a triple amount than the normal gold.  Whether that be with the fish that you already caught or you catching the fish on that day, the selling worth of that fish is tripled.  Once midnight CST comes around, the fish isn’t worth triple but a new fish is!

This might get a little complicated now but I’ll try to break it down.  If you catch the Catch of the Day fish, you will receive a pop up telling you that your fishing value has increased.  What this means is that day that you catch a Catch of the Day fish, your fish selling worth is increased by 100 gold for any fish you want to sell in the future.  The max it can increase to is 3000.  Once you have 30 days of catching the Catch of the Day fish, all the fish you sell will have a guaranteed 3000 gold on top of the gold that fish would originally be sold for.  Make sure to take a note that catching multiple Catch of the Day fish on the same day will not add up.  On top of all of this, there is a new badge that you can acquire after catching 12 days of Catch of the Day which may help to see how much additional gold your fish is worth.
